FAQs

Fire alarm questions

How often does a fire alarm need servicing?

BS 5839-1 recommends servicing by a competent person at least every six months, alongside a weekly user test of a different call point each week. Some insurers and licensing conditions require quarterly attendance.

What category of system do I need?

It follows from your fire risk assessment. Life-safety categories run L1 (all areas) down to L5 (engineered solution); property protection uses P1 and P2; M is manual call points only. We advise on the right category and document the reasoning.

Can you take over servicing from another company?

Yes. We survey the existing system, record its category and condition, note anything non-compliant, and then pick up the servicing schedule from your next due date.

Do you offer call-out cover?

Yes, service contracts can include an agreed response time for faults and unwanted alarms, so a panel in fault does not sit beeping over a weekend.
